The event provided the participants with exciting insight into a variety of medical disciplines. Dr. Elgin Drda, Vice-Rector for Medicine at the JKU’s Faculty of Medicine, warmly welcomed the participants.

Prof. Dr. Clemens Schmitt, head of the Department of Hematology and Internal Oncology, held the first presentation together with an assistant physician, introducing the participants to the clinic’s work and how that ties in with medicine and research.

Doris Punz, a senior nurse, followed with her presentation about the nursing team at a clinic. She spoke with the young students about the diverse responsibilities and provided insight into challenges and rewards of nursing.

Later on during the event, Prof. Dr. Soyoung Lee (head of the Institute of Tumor Biology) and Katharina Rösel (a PhD candidate at the Tumor Biology institute) held a presentation about cancer research at the MED campus, presenting current research findings and developments in the fight against cancer.

The event concluded with a fascinating 3D anatomy show titled "Cinematic Virtual Anatomy" at the JKU medSPACE, opens an external URL in a new window. Dean Prof. Dr. Franz Fellner, head of the Central Radiology Institute, took the audience on a special virtual three-dimensional tour through the human body using MRI and CT data.

By providing insight into various medical specialties, prospective students were able to learn more about the medical profession in greater detail. The event was an opportunity to acquire valuable experience and deepen their understanding of the medical profession. The organizers are hopeful that the event not only served to stimulate the visitors’ interest to perhaps pursue a career in medicine, but also provide information that support in their choice of profession is available.
