Vienna 1919: Margarethe Csonka (Christina Cervenka), a young middle-class daughter, is a lesbian and her parents send her to see Sigmund Freud (Karl Markovics).

They want him to "cure" her of her "forbidden desire" towards a scandalous baroness and high-class prostitute. Gretl, however, fights for her love and misleads the psychiatrist. Freud concludes that homosexuality can neither be treated - nor does it need to be.
