The 2024 Ars Electronica Festival

Artificial intelligence, robots, multi-media installations: We can already experience the technology of tomorrow today! Experience this and more first-hand during the 2024 Ars Electronica Festival at the JKU MED Campus as well as at other locations in Linz.

We're talking about Anton Bruckner, quantum physics, artificial intelligence, Alan Turing, generational conflicts and magic. Will we need wizard Merlin Kepler's help to 'turn the tide' and tackle the global challenges we currently face? Only time will tell. But we know one thing for sure: Science and art can generate the momentum needed to drive innovation forward!

Funded by the JKU's Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) and other partners and in partnership with artists, there are a total of ten unique (interactive) art & science istallations created by JKU faculty members and researchers. We hope guests and visitors actively experience the installations which were designed to also spark dialogue and discussion!

Located in the heart of Linz, the JKU Medical (MED) Campus is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will debut as a venue at this year's  internationally renowned Ars Electronica Festival. The Ars Electronica Festival celebrates technology, art, social involvement, and the wider community. The JKU Faculty of Medicine will showcase its medical expertise by not only featuring fascinating insight into the world of medicine, but also hosting unique and innovative installations that demonstrate the power of imagination at the crossroads of art and science.

Visit the JKU MED Campus, the Mariendom Cathedral Linz, and parts of PostCity at no charge!

JKU Projects During the Festival

Statistically, there are around 30 new inventions per 100,000 residents, placing Linz well above the national Austrian average. Linz plays a leading role in developing cutting-edge technologies and materials and is a UNESCO City of Media Arts. The JKU's Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) - an institution that brings research, innovation, and creative arts together - is involved in much of the work and once again, this year's Ars Electronica Festival will be the stage to shine a spotlight on selected LIT-sponsored art & science installations, giving us a glimpse into a unique, interdisciplinary body of work.
