Thomas Sommerer is a media sociologist and educational scientist and studied sociology and adult education at the University of Graz. He is concerned with the topics of critical theory of digitalization, media theory and digital learning theories. His work focuses on the combination of classical sociological and philosophical concepts in comparison with digital and virtual realities. In his dissertation, Sommerer dealt with a reinterpretation of Jean Piaget's genetic epistemology in the context of researching learners in virtual space. In addition to his academic work, Thomas Sommerer also works as a media producer and trainer in the private sector and runs his own company in this field.
