Facts: NaSci-Tec for School Students
Das NaSci-Tec program for school students is based on the Bachelor's degree program NaSci-Tec, opens in new window offered at the JKU.
Unique in Austria, this technically-oriented degree program combines the subject areas of chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
The program gives school students an opportunity to enhance their basic understanding and education in these subject areas and, at the same time, earn ECTS credits to count toward their studies later on. In three semesters, program participants can choose between three subject areas and attend overview lectures.
The program is open to students at AHS or BHS schools throughout Austria from the 11th class onward. Participants can complete the program individually, or at school (as an elective or optional practical). Students can always start in the Winter Semester
Opportunities to take part in the program:
- On-site at the JKU
- flexibly, via distance learning and with support provided locally at Distance Studies centers in Vienna, Bregenz and Saalfelden
The NaSci-Tec Program for Schools
Transfer Academic Credit Toward Your Studies
As part of the NaSci-Tec program, participants can earn the following ECTS credits:
- 2 ECTS credits per overview lecture
- 3 ECTS credits per introductory internship / introductory course
ECTS credits that can be applied later on during your studies:
- direct credit transfer currently for related subject areas
- ECTS credit can count as autonomous course credit in all degree programs
- program participants who successfully complete 9 ECTS can have those credits count toward the StEOP (=Studies Introduction and Orientation Phase) requirements for different degree programs at the JKU, such as NaSci-Tec, Chemistry, Technical Physics, or Technical Mathematics
During this period, school students in the program will be enrolled as non-degree seeking students at the JKU Linz.
Program participants are not subject to paying tuition fees but must pay the required Austrian Student Union fee of approx. €20 per semester.
