Review Young Kepler Uni 2024

On 09.11.2024, the Young Kepler Uni 2024 took place at Med Campus 1 with a focus on Medical science and science for children & young people.

The Young Kepler Uni was launched in 2021 for the first time for children and young people under the title “Young Kepler Uni”. You can find out more under Young Kepler Uni

This year, the Clinical Research Institute for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, headed by Prim. Clin.-Prof. Dr. Clemens Steinwender, participated in this event for the first time.

Dr. Verena Charwat, PhD (representative of the scientific team CRI CM/Pathophysiology) led through the world of “Microfluidics in basic medical research” in her workshops and inspired children aged eight to twelve. The primary topic was the tiny channels in the human body in which blood flows, for example. The tasks, chemical and biological processes of these channels were explored and discussed. With the help of microfluidic systems, this tiny and wonderful world was playfully explored and researched with the children.

OA Dr. Peter Benedikt, MSc. (representative of the scientific team CRI CM/Cardiac Surgery), together with Dr. Niklas Krenner (representative of Kadiotechnik at Kepler University Hospital Linz), offered a workshop on the topic of “the function of the human circulatory system” as part of the Young Kepler University. The workshop was attended by children between the ages of ten and fourteen, who enjoyed the demonstration of various biological and mechanical valve prostheses. A special highlight was a left ventricular assist device (LVAD for short), as well as rings for repairing the mitral valve and vascular prostheses.

We are delighted with the large number of participants and would like to thank the scientific team for their commitment!
