No. The problems have been designed in a way that they can be solved without the use of any aids. You are not allowed to use your own paper or pens. You can make notes, calculations, etc. in the examination booklet and on test day, the JKU will provide you with a ballpoint pen.

Admission Allocation for the 2024/25 Academic Year
In cooperation with MedUni Graz, the JKU will offer 320 applicants admission to the Bachelor’s degree program in Human Medicine to begin studies at the start of the 2024/2025 academic year. Students will be accepted to the program based on the (highest ranked) results of the admissions examination, taking the legal regulations as outlined in the regulations, opens a file into account. To enroll and begin your studies in Linz or Graz, please see Step 2: Completing the MedAT Admissions Examination – Examination Results.
NEW beginning in 2024/2025 academic year: Applicants who agree to remain in the state of Upper Austria after graduation (max. 10 spots in the program), or remaining in the state of Lower Austria after graduation (max. 4 spots in the program), OR to working for the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (max. 2 spots in the program) to perform duties in the public interest BEFORE taking the admissions examination will be offered up to 16 of the 320 spots in the program as part of the agreement. Step 1: Register for the Admissions Procedure
First, Create an Account
When you create an account, you are registering at the JKU for the first time. This account allows you to complete steps as outlined in the registration process. If you already have an account, proceed directly to the next step "Start the Registration Procedure".
Then Begin the Registration Procedure
Log in using your account information and enter the requested information.
During this step we require:
- Information about your educational background
- Information regarding your nationality (PDF), opens a file (on account of the quota of spots - Austria, EU, third-country nationals)
- Payment of €110 administrative fee directly via the online registration system. You can pay by credit card (Mastercard, Visa), online bank transfer, or using PayPal.

Once you are registered and have paid the administrative fee, you will also be registered for "Step 2 - Taking the Admissions Test".
Please note:
- Please make sure that the e-mail address you have provided is valid and up-to-date. We will send additional information regarding the admission process to the e-mail address you have provided.
- Do not register to enroll and/or pay the fee using a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) that has unstable internet connection.
- The admissions procedure takes place only once per academic year. You may not register for the respective academic year outside of the stated deadlines.
- In order to take part in the admission procedure, you must meet the eligibility requirements - see § 6 of the regulations, opens a file regarding the admissions procedure..
- As part of the degree selection process, you will be asked to take part in a statistical survey in accordance with Section 18 (6) of the 2020 Education Documentation Act.
- Make sure you have completed, confirmed and submitted the required vaccination forms (see Step 3: Admission to the Program) before you begin your studies. Certain vaccinations are mandatory in order to work at the Kepler University Hospital! As you will begin working at the Kepler University Hospital during the first week of your studies, you will be required to show your vaccination record!

What you need to bring to the test:
- An official, valid photo ID (ID card, passport)
- if applicable, the test invitation containing the processing number (MedAT number). Please memorize this number! You will need it to write on your test documents. You will receive the test invitation containing the processing number via e-mail approximately two weeks before the test date.
Please note:
- You may only keep one beverage bottle (not made out of glass) on the table in the test room. All other items must be stored in a lockable bag or backpack. Detailed information is available in the test invitation e-mail!
- The JKU will provide pens on test day.
- Please note that the test room is air-conditioned!
- Keep the whole day free!
- The admission test takes place only ONCE per academic year and in German only!
Examination Material
The entrance test covers the following:
- A fundamental educational background required to study medicine (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematic)
- Text comprehension
- Cognitive skills and abilities (number sequences, memory and memory retention, assembling figures, word fluency, recognizing implications)
- Socio-emotional skills (controlling emotions, identifying emotions, social decision making skills)

Test Results
You can expect to receive information per e-mail about your examinations results and notification as to a spot in the program between August 5 (the beginning of calendar week 32) and August 9, 2024, at the latest. If you are eligible for admission to the medical degree program, the e-mail will contain information about the next steps to enroll
Please note:
- During Step 1 - Registration and Payment: Provide an active e-mail address that you check frequently as the test results will be e-mailed to that e-mail address.
You will begin your studies in Linz or in Graz.
200 students will start their studies at the JKU Linz, and 120 students will complete the first four semesters of the medical degree program at the MedUni Graz. Allocation to one of the two locations is based on an automated process, taking the following into account:

your proximity to one of the two locations (Linz or Graz), based on your city of residence (as indicated when registering for the admission procedure), and

the preference you indicated when registering for the admissions procedure
Please note that you may be admitted to a university location other than the one you initially indicated.

Admission to the medical degree program based on your interest to work for the common good is as follows:
- you must have signed up to take the MedAT admissions examination by the deadline (Step 1)
- you have signed an agreement with either the state of Upper Austria, the state of Lower Austria, or the Austrian Health Insurance Fund to perform duties in the public interest and for the common good before taking the admissions examination (detailed information is available exclusively from the institutions below)
- you score a maximum of 75% among the applicants who took the MedAT admissions examination
- the contingent for the respective institution has not yet been filled (Upper Austria: max. 10 places, Lower Austria: max. 4 places, Austrian Health Insurance Fund: max. 2 places)
- you have made a commitment to only one of the specified institutions
- you successfully earned a spot among the first 304 applicants anyway based on an outstanding exam scores, even though you may have the opportunity to sign a contract with one of the aforementioned institutions. If you are interested, please contact one of the institutions listed below.

- You are/have already been enrolled in medicine at another public Austrian university and can provide documentation of having successfully earned a minimum of 150 ECTS credits.
- There is available capacity to earn any outstanding academic credits at the JKU's Faculty of Medicine.
- You successfully completed an admissions procedure at the respective university before being admitted to the program.

Yes, but before that, you have to take part in the admissions procedure and get a spot in the program. Once you have been admitted to the program as a degree-seeking student student, you can submit an application for credit transfer to the JKU's Office Examinations and Recognition Services. Please note: you can only earn credit for post-secondary examinations that are included in the curriculum for human medicine.
Step 3: Admission to the Program
Following Step 2: Passing the Admissions Examination and having been offered a spot in the program, you must apply for admission. Upload the following documents with your application:
- Proof of having passed the admissions procedure (a PDF or JPEG of the personalized e-mail "Test Results Admissions Test Human Medicine 2024").
- A valid passport, identity card, or a driver's license together with your proof of nationality.
- Proof of general university entrance qualifications (i.e. a Matura diploma, Abitur diploma, IB diploma), all of the pages.
- Confirmation of any name change, providing not all of the documents have the same name (i.e. a marriage certificate)
- Any disenrollment documentation (all of the pages) if you were once admitted to a degree program in Human Medicine at another Austrian university.
Furthermore, you will need the last studies information sheet (=Studienblatt) and transcripts (=Studienerfolgsnachweis). - Proof of having had Latin at school (students can also sign up to take the Latinum test during the Bachelor's degree program).
- A recent portrait photo (JPEG) for your JKUCard (student ID card).

- Please make sure that all of your documents are in PDF file and are complete (all of the pages) and legible..
- You must complete a statistical survey in accordance with the § 18 Abs. 6 Education Documentation Act.
