Career Development - Career Mentoring_III
The JKU is committed to its socio-political responsibilities, particularly implementing actions designed to support gender equality and the advancement of women and counteract the gender asymmetry that continues to occur at our university. Over the past years, the universities of Linz, Krems, and Salzburg have joined forces to carry out a unique career development program for female scholars and scientists, “Karriere_Mentoring III”. The program focuses on advancing the careers of women pursuing a PhD or post-doc degree in different subject areas by means of targeted mentoring relationships. The program serves to professionally enhance their career prospects, strengthen interpersonal skills, and broaden their potential and professional networks. The next cohort is set to begin in May 2024.

Cross-Mentoring Career Development
The cross-mentoring program, opens an external URL in a new window targets (future) women executives, experts, and professionals in order to actively support women and advancing their respective careers.
Over the course of 8 months, a mentor from 'company A' mentors a female participant from 'company B', creating an individual, mutually enriching, supportive and guidance-oriented relationship spanning multiple companies.
The program seeks to boost the number of women in executive positions throughout Upper Austria, as their expertise, creativity and characters are key resources in leadership positions.

Gender Equality Plans in Horizon Europe
Starting in 2021, institutions applying to Horizon Europe are required to submit a Gender Equality Plan. The University of Linz already has a plan to support the advancement of women as well as an equality plan in place, both of which meet most of the requirements for a gender equality plan under Horizon Europe. In addition, a Statement of Commitment is in place linking the status quo at the University of Linz directly to the criteria outlined by Horizon Europe.

MI(N)TMACHEN - Career Guidance at the JKU
Despite some encouraging progress in recent years, the proportion of women actively involved in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology remains relatively low. The Department of Gender & Diversity Management has joined forces with the Department of STEM Didactics (Linz School of Education) to create a digital career guidance program for 4th class MS/AHS students and introduce girls to STEM subject areas as potential career opportunities.
A series of five short films made by junior women researchers at the JKU provide insight into their respective areas of research and and point out that it's time to leave the (exclusively) male bias in technical/science subjects far behind us. In addition to the videos, educators can also find inspirational materials to support in-class lessons.
