Andreas Praher, born in Linz in 1980, studied history and journalism in Salzburg and Leeds. During his studies, he focussed on contemporary Austrian history as well as cultural and everyday history. Diploma thesis on the Soviet occupation in the life stories of women and men from the Mühlviertel (2005). After graduating, freelance journalist for the Kurier in the sports section and editor for the Salzburger Woche, Stadt Nachrichten. 2015 Returned to academia as a historian and senior scientist at the Department of History at the University of Salzburg. At the same time, doctoral studies and dissertation on Austrian skiing under National Socialism. From 2015 to 2019, teaching as a senior scientist at the University of Salzburg, including on sports history and migration history. From the winter semester 2019/20, lecturer at the Department of History at the University of Salzburg.
He was a project employee at the Institute for Social and Economic History at the JKU for the Interreg project Quality Tourism Alpine Region.
Research and publication activities in the field of historical migration research on the topics of labour migration, emigration and flight in the 20th century as well as on the history of sport in the interwar period, National Socialism and post-war Austria. Head of the research and publication project of the Province of Salzburg Sport in the Nazi Era (2014-2018). Collaboration on the NS project of the City of Salzburg (2009-2016); building up the collection of letters and diaries of Austrian emigrants at the University of Salzburg and conducting life history interviews for the migration archive of the Salzburg City Archive (2015-2019). Initiator and co-organiser of the 1st and 2nd Salzburg Football Conference 2014 and 2017 at the Department of History at the University of Salzburg and co-organiser of the conference Lager. History - Transformation - Memory (2018) at the University of Salzburg and the Austrian Studies Association Conference at Bowling Green State University, Ohio Austria in Europe: Contemporary and Historical Perspectives on Migration, Immigration, & Integration (2019). In addition, exhibition activities: scientific collaboration and conception of the exhibition 50 Years of the Recruitment Agreement with Yugoslavia in Salzburg 2016 and scientific collaboration on the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition in Steyr 2021 Work - Prosperity - Power.
Main areas of research: Austrian contemporary history in a European and international context, history of National Socialism and post-war history, migration history, sports history, everyday and cultural history, oral history and biographical research.
