Gabriel Tober

Curriculum Vitae

Gabriel Tober is a research assistant and PhD Candidate in the project “SoyChange - Soy and Agro-Food Change. Austria from a Multi-Level Perspective, 1870s-2020s“ (founded by the Austrian Science Fund). In his investigation, he focuses on domestic actors and international links in the rising soy-business in Austria from the 1950s onwards.
Gabriel has an interdisciplinary background. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. During his studies, he spent one year at the University of the Americas Puebla, Mexico. Then, he specialised in Development Studies (Master) at the University of Vienna. He wrote his Master’s thesis about forced migration for which he conducted primary research in El Salvador. His thesis was published by the “Austrian Foundation for Development Research” (ÖFSE-Forum 79). During this time, he also enrolled in the Master of Sociology at Johannes Kepler University Linz because of his interest in research methods.
During his studies, he gained work experience in different NGOs. He has been inspired by the interaction with different ways of living in the Global South, especially in Latin America. Hence, his motivation is to uncover global connections and inequalities and contribute to a social-ecological transformation.
