On November 21, Univ. Prof. Gudrun Sproesser, Univ. Prof. Waldemar Kremser, Univ. Prof. Carsten Schneider and Univ. Prof. Kerstin Blank provided insight into their respective areas of research during inaugural lectures held by new faculty members at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business & Economics.

Univ. Prof. Gudrun Sprosser teaches and conducts research at the Institute of Education and Psychology. Her inaugural lecture titled "Aktuelle Entwicklungen: Ansätze aus der Gesundheitspsychologie" aimed to introduce research findings aimed at better understanding normal eating behavior in an effort to prevent the development of chronic non-communicable diseases, addressing how sustainable meals are perceived, and how new technologies can be applied to support better eating habits. Unfortunately, Professor Sproesser's lecture had to be cancelled on account of illness.

Univ. Prof. Waldemar Kremser’s (Institute for Strategic Management) presentation titled "Zur Bedeutung von Interdependenz für das strategische Management" focused on providing an understanding of fundamental forms of interdependence at organizations. In doing so, Kremser demonstrated how an analytical focus on interdependence can yield important, strategic management insight.

The inaugural lectures continued on Monday, November 28, and featured new faculty members at the Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences.

Univ. Prof. Carsten Schneider’s (Institute for Symbolic Computing - RISC) presentation titled "Symbolic Summation and Challenging Calculations from Particle Physics", highlighted the special capabilities of symbolic summation and explained how the theory of difference rings can be applied to generate flexible summation algorithms to simplify highly complicated multisums into simpler expressions.

"Mechanical Engineering of Proteins" was the title of Univ. Prof. Kerstin Blank’s (Institute of Experimental Physics) inaugural lecture, describing her approach to determine the relationships between protein-based material building blocks. This understanding facilitates the development of these building blocks, as well as optimizes their mechanical stability, equipping them with additional capabilities.
