Group Leader Experimental Orthopaedics and Traumatology

Curriculum Vitae

Research profile

Mag. Dr. Eleni Priglinger (previously Oberbauer), group leader at the Institute for Orthopaedics and Traumatology has long-standing experience in stem cell research and tissue engineering. She completed her PhD in the neuroscientific field at the Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg. In the 10 years prior to her current position she was team leader at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology focusing on the optimisation of primary human stem cell therapies for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering - from isolation (development of a non-enzymatic cell isolation device) to 2D/3D cell culture (co-culture, lab-on-a-chip), characterisation (identity, potency, functionality), activation (shockwaves, light therapy, magnetic exposure), and clinical application (preclinical, GMP upgrade). Additionally, she is a founding member of the Lipedema World Alliance and has done pioneering work in lipedema basic research. In her current position she is focusing on different primary regenerative cell types, EVs, growth factors and functionalised scaffolds for musculoskeletal tissue engineering. One main focus is 3D bioprinting for the regeneration of osteochondral defects resulting from osteoarthritis and critical-size bone defects resulting from trauma.
