Clinical pathology.

Research in the field of clinical pathology focuses mainly on tissue-based methods, whereby all techniques of routine histology, immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology can be used. This is combined with other complex methods such as tissue microarray technique, multiplex immunohistology and immunofluorescence, as well as digital pathology. In cooperation with the JKU's Core Facilities, complex high-plex/multi-omics techniques are also used. The examination materials are taken from the archives of the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology of the Kepler University Hospital, or from external collaborators.

The scientific focus is on the evaluation of the response of tumors to different, usually preoperative therapies, and the investigation of factors responsible for different responses. These are investigated at the morphological and molecular genetic level. The aim of this work is the identification of biomarkers for response prediction and the development of standardized, prognostically relevant systems for tumor regression.

Other focuses of clinical pathology are diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs and breast. We conduct research in the field of tumor diseases as well as non-neoplastic diseases. Concrete examples of this can be found among the research projects listed below.
