Neuropathology.

Neuropathology bridges the gap between pathology, clinical neurodisciplines (neurology, neurosurgery, neuropediatrics, neuroradiology, geriatric psychiatry and psychiatry) and neuroscience. It translates new findings from the neurosciences into a context that is understandable to clinicians.

Neuropathology is concerned with the study and diagnosis of the morphological changes of the central and peripheral nervous system. The causes and mechanisms of development of these complex diseases are investigated using light microscopy, immunohistological, enzyme histochemical, electron microscopic and molecular biological methods.

Neuropathology makes diagnoses for neurosurgery, neurology and paediatric surgery on biopsy or cerebrospinal fluid cytological material as well as on the autoptic brain. Concrete examples of our research priorities can be found among the research projects listed below.
