EC2U Mentoring Webinar – Bridging Academia & Industry (Online)

Open: Call for Mentees!

The EC2U Mentoring Webinar brings PhD candidates in STEM fields together with industry professionals for career guidance. As part of small-group discussions and one-on-one interaction, this webinar is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

  • Date: April 28, 2025
  • Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (CET)
  • Location: Online (via Zoom)
WP8

The webinar is a touchdown event providing PhD candidates with career orientation, bringing them together with professionals outside of academia working in various European countries.

The webinar includes a series of small group discussions about careers outside academia (such as with experienced professionals holding a doctorate degree who now work in the industrial sector) – and mentees (doctoral candidates).

The discussions will take place in English.

Call for Mentees

PhD or doctoral candidates in the STEM areas who are considering a career outside of academia.

We look forward to receiving your application!

You will be notified by April 15. Those selected will receive a link to the webinar room.

After the webinar, you will have an opportunity to meet a mentor again in one or two additional one-on-one online meetings, depending on availability and which mentor you have matched with.

Who are the mentors?

Entrepreneur at EGO Genomics S.L.

Secretary General of the Austrian Chapter of the Club of Rome

Release Train Engineer at Vodafone Intelligent Solutions

Expert Researcher at Neste

Medical doctor at Hospital Vila Nova Cachoeirinha

Chief Information Security and Compliance Officer at CREATEQ

Schedule (April 28, 2025)

Opening remarks

The webinar will kick off with opening remarks by the Career Mentoring Leaders. They will talk about the meeting's goals and objectives, and set the stage for meaningful mentor-mentee interaction.

Mentor introductions

Each mentor will briefly introduce themselves, sharing key aspects of their career journey, how they transitioned from academia to the industrial sector, and their current role. These introductions will help mentees identify mentors whose experiences align with their own personal interests.

Virtual roundtable discussions

Mentees will be placed in small-group discussions with mentors, rotating every 20 minutes. This format ensures mentees can engage with multiple professionals, acquiring diverse perspectives about prospetive career paths, industry expectations, and transferable skills.

One-on-one mentor-mentee sessions

Mentors have an option to offer up to two additional 1-hour mentoring sessions following the webinar. These individual meetings are an opportunity for selected mentees to have in-depth career discussions, get more personal advice, and build a professional network.
