1,900 Spots Available Across all Programs
There are a total number of 1,900 spots in the medical degree programs (including dentistry) offered across Austria for the 2025/2026 academic year. The Medical University of Vienna will accept 772 students to its medical degree program in the fall, the Medical University of Innsbruck will accept 420 students, the Medical University of Graz will accept 388, and the Faculty of Medicine at the JKU will accept 320 students (only human medicine in Linz). In regard to admission, a minimum of 95% of spots in the program are set aside for EU citizens (and those considered of equal status) and a minimum of 75% of spots in the program are set aside for applicants holding an Austrian school-leaving certificate. The quota regulation applies only to allocating program spots in human medicine. During the 2025/2026 academic year, 85 of the 1,900 spots in medical degree programs across Austria were designated to those who agreed to work on behalf of public interest matters for federal states, the Austrian Health Insurance Fund, the Austrian Ministry of the Interior, or the Austrian Ministry of Defense after graduation. Those who wish to apply for the medical degree program under these conditions are required to take part in the standard application process at the desired location and then, as part of an agreement with the respective institution, commit to these responsibilities on behalf of the public interest. To earn this type of spot in the program, applications must pass the MedAT examination. See: www.medizinstudieren.at, opens an external URL in a new window to learn more.
