“Dr. Walter Aichinger's passing marks the loss of an influential figure and an outstanding physician who was as passionate as he was scientifically interested in Upper Austria as a location of healthcare. The JKU has lost a tireless advocate for the Faculty of Medicine initiative. By allocating research space in the Blood Center in close proximity to the Kepler University Hospital, the JKU Faculty of Medicine was able to quickly establish itself in research. We came to know and appreciate Walter Aichinger not only as a highly skilled physician and a passionate president of the Upper Austrian Red Cross, but also as a staunch supporter of our efforts to establish a medical school. He always communicated as equals and treated everyone with respect and consideration.
