In 2020, the Ars Electronica’s annual “Ars Electronica Festival” will take place at the JKU.

JKU Rector Lukas and Ars Electronica artistic director, Gerfried Stocker, recently agreed that next year’s festival will take place on campus. JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas remarked: "Both the Ars Electronica and the JKU have resoluteness, a pioneering spirit and cutting-edge innovative in common. The next logical step is for the two institutions to grow even closer together. I am delighted that the JKU will host one of the Republic's most important festivals at Austria’s most beautiful and exciting campus."
The festival is the most important of its kind in the world. For 40 years, the electrifying festival has focused on technology, art and society. This year’s festival attracted over 110,000 visitors and array of talented artists, renowned scientists, and IT giants from around the world. This year, over 50 universities were involved.
