OA Univ. Doz. Dr. Christian Eggers, a medical specialist at the Department of Neurology, received his habilitation/post-doc certificate in “Neurology” for his dissertation titled: “Untersuchungen zur Virusreplikation im ZNS bei der HIV-Infektion und ihre Bedeutung in der Pathogenese der HIV-Enzephalopathie”. Eggers completed his studies in Berlin and Hamburg and acquired professional experience abroad in the USA and in England. He successfully passed the neurology qualifying examination in 2015 with the second highest score out of a total of 77 candidates.

Those pursuing a habilitation/post-doc undergo an academic evaluation in regard to special qualifications that proves their ability to independently conduct academic/scientific research and teach the entire depth and breadth of their selected subject area [venia docendi], This, in turn, is the prerequisite to grant authorization to teach that particular subject area. A so-called “Umhabilitation” is a streamlined procedure in which an individual receives a teaching qualification for another university or faculty.
