JKU Installations at the 2024 Ars Electronica Festival Attracted Large Crowds

The JKU showcased exciting installations ranging from quantum music and AI to mysteries of the gut.

The Johannes Kepler University Linz’ MED Campus debuted as a venue at this year’s internationally renowned Ars Electronica Festival, focusing on technology, art and social issues, and marking the Faculty of Medicine’s 10th anniversary. The JKU welcomed over 5,000 visitors in the heart of Linz, presenting fascinating insight into the world of medicine as well as innovative installations at the crossroads of art and science.

Sponsored by the LIT, the quantum music concert “BruQner - The Sound of Entanglement” in the Mariendom cathedral commemorated Anton Bruckner's 200th birthday, while the JKU medSPACE featured socially critical films in the field of digital animation and provided previously unseen insight into the human body.

The JKU contributed significantly to a highly successful festival at which over 1,200 artists, scientists, researchers, software developers, entrepreneurs, and activists showcased their ideas and visions.

JKU Rector Stefan Koch expressed his delight during a week devoted to art, culture and science: “Located in the heart of Linz, the Medical Campus at the Johannes Kepler University Linz successfully debuted as a venue at this year’s Ars Electronica Festival, giving countless visitors impressive insight by showcasing installations at the crossroads of art and science and opportunities to learn more about the world of medicine. This year's Ars Electronica Festival has proven that coupling art with science can generate momentum to sustainably tackle the global challenges we face!”

The Ars Electronica Festival set a new record by attracting over 112,000 visitors, and the JKU contributed substantially to its success by inspiring thousands of guests.
