OA Priv. Doz. Dr. Nino Hirnschall was presented with his “Umhabilitation” certificate for his dissertation titled "Factors Influencing Visual Quality After Uncomplicated Cataract Surgery” in the field of “Ophthalmology and Optometry”. Hirnschall studied medicine in Vienna and has extensive professional experience abroad, including working at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (UK), and in the USA, Australia, and in the Netherlands.

OA Priv. Doz. DDr. Jörg Kellermair, a senior consultant at the Department of Internal Medicine 1 - Cardiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine at Kepler University Hospital, received his habilitation/post-doc certificate in “Internal Medicine with a focus on Cardiology” for his dissertation titled: “Diagnostic and Prognostic Implications of Von Willebrand Factor in Cardiovascular Diseases”. He studied medicine in Vienna and at Monash University Melbourne (Australia). He has also worked in Bulgaria, the USA, and in Norway.

Those pursuing a habilitation/post-doc undergo an academic evaluation in regard to special qualifications that proves their ability to independently conduct academic/scientific research and teach the entire depth and breadth of their selected subject area [venia docendi], This, in turn, is the prerequisite to grant authorization to teach that particular subject area. A so-called “Umhabilitation” is a streamlined procedure in which an individual receives a teaching qualification for another university or faculty.
