Short biography

Carlotta is a scientific researcher (pre-doc) at the ICAE, working on projects regarding “Socio-Ecological Transformation” (SET). In 2023, she graduated from the Master’s Program Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien). Her master’s thesis focused on the intersection of economic inequality and the climate crisis in the US media landscape. Following her master’s, Carlotta worked as a researcher on projects relating to the political economy of media and economic inequality before joining the ICAE. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Research interest

Carlotta’s research focuses primarily on the intersection between the climate crisis/SET, inequality and media. Her interests are both about media discourses and the structural and power dynamics behind these. Theoretically, she uses concepts from ecological economics, critical political economy, as well as foundational economy and media/communications studies. Carlotta implements mixed-method approaches, in particular the combination of Structural Topic Modelling and Critical Discourse Analysis.
