Journal ratings are now widely used by university administrations when making decisions on promotion, hiring and the allocation of workload. Because of the dominance of neoclassical mainstream economics most existing journal ratings are biased in favor of the standard economic approach and discriminate against journals dedicated to heterodox economics and/or political economy. In our project we suggest to create an integrated journal ranking for heterodox economics and related fields like economic sociology, international political economy or economic geography, that is, we aim to create a journal-ranking for political economy journals.

This research project uses input-output analysis to estimate the impact of the recent Tyrolian transport reform. It thereby takes into account the direct value added created by investment in existing capacities as well as the effect of lower fare prices on household disposable income and consumption. It also accounts for value-added effects due to the associated production taking place in the supplying industries as well as additional consumption demand due to the additional income created within this process.

The second part of the study dealt with the question, which factors are decisive for export success and on this basis sought to determine which form of sectoral specialization can contribute to preserving or expanding the international competitiveness of an economy.

Several disciplines and their scientific societies increasingly distance themselves from the use of bibliometric measures aimed at assessing the quality of research. In contrast, economists seems rather eager to define quantitative ways to evaluate single contributions, researchers or research institutions. The projects collected here aim at documenting how citations and simplistic bibliometric measures are a potentially misleading tool to evaluate research quality in economics and elsewhere, which nonetheless shape the development of academic fields.
