Introduction of the work at the department of integrated circuits
The Department for Integrated Circuits focuses on the design and development of analog and mixed-signal circuits and systems, with a particular emphasis on low-power circuit techniques, radio-frequency (RF), millimeter-wave (mmWave), and sub-terahertz (THz) integrated circuits. Our expertise in cellular communication circuit design serves as a foundation for our research activities, which aim to advance the state-of-the-art in various areas of electronic circuit design. In addition, our department investigates electro-static discharge (ESD) protection techniques and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation strategies, with a focus on ensuring the reliability and robustness of modern electronic circuits and systems. Our academic programs offer a comprehensive range of educational opportunities, including graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as supervision for Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD dissertations.
The Pangolin Scales
1.024 Mini Brain Sensors to Control a Fashionable Dress
The Pangolin Scales demonstrates the world’s first 1.024 channel brain-computer interface (BCI), which is able to extract information from the human brain with an unprecedented resolution to control an interactive, fashionable dress. This information is used to control the Pangolin Dress interactively, and was shown live on a model during the Ars Electronica Festival. The Pangolin Scales is realized by a cooperation between researchers from the Institute for Integrated Circuits at JKU, the brain-computer interface experts from g.tec medical engineering GmbH and high-tech fashion designer Anouk Wipprecht.
