FWF AlKa-DL: Durchflussvorhersage von alpinen Karstquellen

Term: 10/2024 - 09/2027 (36 months)

Partner: Geosphere Austria

Topic:
Karst aquifers play an important role in the Alpine region. They cover about 56% of the area (Chen et al., 2017) and a substantial part of the population is completely or partially dependent
on drinking water from karst aquifers, including major cities like Vienna and Innsbruck. Moreover, karst springs are often associated with valuable groundwater dependent ecosystems and contribute to hydro power generation (Wagner et al., 2017). Good models can help to manage these invaluable resources in a responsible and sustainable way. Within this project, we will develop and comparatively evaluate data-driven approaches for modelling karst spring discharge in different settings.
