AI on Drugs: Award for Medical Research Software

Artificial Intelligence used to help develop new drugs was recently honored at the GTC Conference.

Research conducted at the Institute for Machine Learning (Dept Head: Univ. Prof. Sepp Hochreiter) won the Best Poster Award at the conference.

Deep Learning is changing the way medicine is developed. Chemists used to develop chemical structures but now AI can take over in the search and development of new structures. Whereas scientists used to have to conduct lab experiments, AI is now being applied by using deep learning methods beforehand to learn about the test results in advance. This approach is based on morphological cell changes. Günter Klambauer added, "In short: Deep Learning develops active ingredients, replacing lab experiments."

The GTC Conference is organized by the graphics card manufacturer NIVIDA.
