General Chemistry Quiz 2023

An amusing conclusion of the courses from the field of General Chemistry.

On 17 June 2023, the General Chemistry Quiz took place for the fourth time ever and for the second time in presence. The quiz at the end of the "General Chemistry" courses was welcomed with joy by all participants.

Now the question arises of how to write about something that you are not actually allowed to talk about. Because that is the first rule of the quiz: "We don't talk about the General Chemistry Quiz." Accordingly, all participants came to the quiz with different but consistently positive expectations. A total of six teams took part in the 10 rounds with over 100 questions. That may sound like a lot, but the time flew by with drinks of all kinds and plenty of refreshments. We also had a lot of fun finding our group names: "Solution Squad", "Alkoholfreier Radler 0,0%", "alkaline canines", "triphosphane", "Ion the prize" and "Not 0K" competed against each other in an exciting and funny rivalry, which in the end was only decided by a few points: The team "Solution Squad" probably kept the clearest head and prevailed against the other participating teams. Congratulations of course also to all the other teams, without you it would never have been so exciting and fun.

What do we, the winning team, say about the quiz? "Of course all the teams wanted to win, we didn't know what prize we would get. But our team was simply the best mixed team, the fine mix, so to speak. We fought for first place with fun and enthusiasm. Funnily enough, we did better in the first five categories than in the second five. In the end, however, it was enough for first place and lifted our spirits considerably. We would all take part in the quiz again in a heartbeat, we will remember this fun event fondly!"

Finally, we would all like to thank the team from the Institute of General Chemistry for organising this fun and truly exceptional event. Everyone had a lot of fun and clearly enjoyed the time. The quiz must definitely be continued in future years, a great idea to strengthen teamwork and a fun way to round off the General Chemistry courses. Thanks for a great evening!
