EMOS (“European Master in Official Statistics“) is a project of the European Union to develop a program for the education and further training in official statistics in European master programs. The European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) has labelled the JKU master's program “Statistics”, taught in English, as the only study program in Austria with the EMOS-label.

Hence, students of the JKU-master’s program “Statistics and Data Science,” who did the JKU-Bachelor’s program “Statistik und Data Science” before, have the opportunity to gain an attractive additional certificate, showing their expertise in official statistics. Graduates of this documented specialization will have an application advantage in the working area of official statistics nation-wide and on international level (for current international job offers see the link to a LinkedIn page at the bottom of this website).

The EMOS label has been awarded to 33 study programs in 17 European countries. The Institute of Applied Statistics of JKU Linz is glad of a cooperation agreement with Statistics Austria under the EMOS network. Also, the quality of the JKU-bachelor's program “Statistik und Data Science,” on which the master's program is based upon, is affected by this collaboration: in courses at the JKU and excursions to Vienna, recognized experts from Statistics Austria give our bachelor students an insight into their exciting fields of work.

Students of the Master's degree program in “Statistics and Data Science” who have previously completed the Bachelor's degree program in “Statistics und Data Science” can acquire the EMOS certificate in addition to their Master's degree if they

• successfully complete the Master's program,
• complete a self-organized internship at an official statistics institution (such as Statistics Austria or one of the statistical offices of the federal states) during their studies or participate in a relevant research project (if one is offered), and
• choose a suitable topic for their Master's thesis.

By the EMOS-label, the master's program “Statistics and Data Science” at JKU Linz offers an attractive exclusive further training for the students.
