Concept and Prototypical Implementation of a Plug-in for Capturing Metadata and its Representation in a Wiki

In the course of this work, a concept for the conversion of an existing wiki into a semantic wiki is to be developed.

It is known that users have problems finding the desired information, which increase with the size of the wiki. According to [BuGa06], efficient search and navigation in the wiki area should therefore be improved through the inclusion of semantic content, so that the information contained in wiki topics is brought into a standardized form in order to present it in a machine-readable form.

The benefits and obstacles of the Semantic Web should therefore be clearly described in order to answer the question of whether the combination of Semantic Web and wiki can compensate for the braking factors of the Semantic Web (see section 2.3). To this end, a way must be found to combine wikis and semantic technologies.

Various concepts exist for the extraction of semantic information, which will be explained in more detail in order to identify their respective strengths and weaknesses.
Based on this, a concept is to be developed in the course of this work as to how an existing wiki can be efficiently and cost-effectively enriched with semantic information.

A further point will deal with the role traditionally assigned to the user in the input of semantic information and where there is potential for change. The aim is to identify those areas of information retrieval for which the user can be called upon.

Finally, in the course of a proof of concept, a prototype will be created that implements the functions developed in theory and proves the general feasibility.
