The 2023 I.M.B.A. (International Mela for Breaking Academic) took place at the Kepler Hall in September under the patronage of the Urban Dance Verband Oberösterreich (UDVOÖ). During this unique event for the Olympic discipline of Breaking, the best B-Girls and B-Boys were tested within an academic setting and attracted a lot of attention in the urban dance scene.

Breaking competitions involve two breakers competing against each other. One breaker performs and his/her opponent responds. Five judges evaluate the performances based on six criteria: Creativity, personality, technique, variety, performance, and music selection.

We are especially pleased with Upper Austrian dancers' tremendous performances and success. Judged by an international jury, no fewer than ten Upper Austrians made it on to the podium at all of the competitions. Two JKU students dominated the Academic B-Boy Championships and performed well! JKU student Joel Teodoro placed first and JKU student Stefan Buchroithner placed second.
