Dr. Jonas Albrecht, an economic and social historian, earned his doctorate degree at the JKU Linz and in June, he was presented with the prestigious 2023 Michael Mitterauer Award for Social, Cultural and Economic History at the University of Vienna. The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding dissertation titled "The Moral and Market Economies of Bread: Regulation and Reform in Vienna, 1775-1885', also recently published by Bloomsbury (https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/moral-and-market-economies-of-bread-9781350398481/, opens an external URL in a new window).

This is Albrecht’s third award for his dissertation, following the JKU Young Researchers' Award and the Pro Civitate Austriae Foundation Award. During his speech, economic and social historian Erich Landsteiner commended the dissertation as an outstanding trailblazing study with an international appeal. Ernst Langthaler supervised the dissertation together with Peter Eigner (University of Vienna) and both distinguished scholars congratulated the award winner on behalf of the Institute for Economic, Social and Environmental History at the JKU Linz. The ceremony concluded with a reception at the University of Vienna’s Arkadenhof.
