The business magazine, WirtschaftsWoche, compiled a ranking which, among other things, looked the business administration research performance in the past 5 years within German-speaking Europe. The result: Markus Sinnl (Institute for Production and Logistics Management, JKU) ranked 34th. Martin Hiebl (Institute for Controlling and Consulting) ranked 57th. Although Hiebl moved from JKU to the University of Siegen in 2015, he is currently back in Linz as a visiting professor.

They are also both highly ranked in the "Under 40" ranking with Hiebl in 6th place and Sinnl in 12th. The lifetime achievement ranking puts Hiebl in 167th place and Sinnl in 220th place.

The ranking only took research performance taken into account and not teaching/education. The ranking, opens an external URL in a new window covers publications by over 3,600 business educators in German-speaking Europe.
