As part of Upper Austria Day, Austrian Federal Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein and Science Minister Iris Rauskala visited the JKU campus today.

Ensuing discussions focused on the JKU's advancements during the past months and over the years in terms of content and planned university perspectives.

The Johannes Kepler University is working strongly toward the future, both in terms of campus enhancements and construction as well as strategic planning. As a regional university with local roots and an international direction, the university aims to become a top-ranked European university.

JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas and Vice-Rector Andreas Janko welcomed the Federal Chancellor and the Minister of Science in the Tower Room at the new "Somnium" viewing platform and spoke about the JKU’s plans and projects. JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas remarked: "I strongly believe that a modern university must also conduct research taking major current social issues into account. An interdisciplinary approach is extremely important and something we support greatly here at the JKU because only a university that focuses on real-world issues is qualified to guarantee educational in modern research and learning and enjoy a corresponding place in society."

The Austrian Federal Chancellor and the Minister spoke with faculty members at the JKU and learned more about current issues in the academic fields of chemistry, physics, gender and diversity, artificial intelligence, communications technology, robotic psychology, criminal law and criminal procedure, and cardiac surgery.
