Development perspectives of management control in practice - challenges for a career in management control and finance
On May 8, 2023 the Institute of Management Control and Consulting held a discussion event on current career prospects in management control.
At the beginning of the event, the speakers, who came from different branches of both the public and private sectors, presented their respective companies and their professional careers.
The first contribution was made by Mag.a Christiane Tusek, Vice Rector for Finances at the Johannes Kepler University. Vice Rector Tusek offered the students new insights into the university structure and administration - especially in the financial sector. In connection with this, she also explained what challenges the financial management of a large public institution like the JKU entails and what requirements are accordingly placed on employees in the controlling department there.
Afterwards, Dr. Ines Wolfsgruber, development controller at Pöttinger Landtechnik GmbH, presented the private-sector perspective, not only going into the special features of development controlling, but also going into more detail about the characteristics associated with a controller, including in particular it affinity, structure, but also knowledge of human nature and the ability to prepare facts for different target groups in an understandable way.
As part of the third presentation, Mag.a Melanie Schneiber, an employee in investment controlling at Swietelsky AG and a former project employee at the Institute of Management Control and Consulting, offered insights into controlling in the construction industry and also spoke about what the entry into professional life looks like for controllers.
The event was concluded by a stimulating discussion between the speakers and the students about the current developments in the respective areas of controlling, career prospects depending on the chosen major and what is expected of the JKU graduates of tomorrow.
