Development of a test setup to determine the force-elongation-diagram of a hair

Thomas Baumgartner

The goal of this project was to develop a test setup to determine the force-elongation-diagram of a hair. The basic setup was predefined. The hair should be fixed on the one side and on the other side a motor should coil up the hair until it ruptures. The motor in question is a precision motor ESCAPE 28D2R which was given. On the backside of the motor a puls tachometer is mounted to measure the angle of rotation of the motor shaft. The control, the evaluation of the measurement and the communication with the PC should happen via a ATmega8 microcontroller. The ATmega8 and the motor were to supply by a USB-interface.
A stable and transportable setup was to design and build.
Furthermore an electronics was to design to measure and control the motor. There was also a GUI (Graphical User Interface) by MATLAB to develop. The GUI should make it easy to handle the measurement process. The result of the measurement is the force-elongatio-diagram which should be displayed by the GUI.
