The JKU's Department of Economics has been experiencing an extraordinarily high level of (international) recognition and targeted recruiting. Last year, there were four attractive professorship position offers, and in four other cases, the Linz-based scholars have very promising prospects.

Economic scholars in Linz accepted professorial appointments at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the Freie Universität Berlin, and the the University of Hong Kong, while one offer by the University of Hohenheim was declined. In addition, there are still a number of promising positions for scholars at the University of Innsbruck (2x), the University of Hamburg, and the JKU’s Faculty of Medicine in Linz. In almost all of these cases, junior researchers received offers made also to junior academics in tenure-track positions, meaning those who do not yet hold a professorship position; in three instances, offers were made to scholars who had not yet completed their post-doc.

Rudolf Winter-Ebmer, head of the JKU’s Department of Economics, remarked: “Naturally, we are delighted that our junior colleagues have been recognized for their impressive work at the department, comfirming that our focus on the institute's core areas - empirical microanalysis - is yielding significant outcomes. We are concerned, however, by the departure of highly talented and research-strong colleagues, although in the future, we hope to be able to safeguard our educational and research activities.
