JKU Involvement in SUSTAINair: A Circular Economy in European Aviation

Funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 program, SUSTAINair, opens an external URL in a new window is leading efforts to transform aviation by driving pioneering technologies forward and creating high-impact solutions. In an effort to improve aircraft value chain sustainability and shift the aeronautical paradigm, SUSTAINair’s innovative approaches are expected to generate considerable advantages in the areas of production, operation, maintenance and EoL (End of Life). Thanks to expertise at the Institute of Structural Lightweight Design, the JKU is also contributing to these endeavors.

The final SUSTAINair conference will focus on timely issues that play a pivotal role in aviation sustainability. One of the key topics is integrating intelligent aircraft materials, particularly innovative materials possessing special properties that could potentially improve aircraft performance and durability while also reducing environmental impact.

The conference will bring EU affiliated projects together, such as CAELESTIS, MORPHO, DOMMINIO, RECAL, GENEX, and INFINITE. Each of these partners contributes a unique perspective, experience, expertise, and skill set to the overall mission of sustainable aviation.
