Numerical mathematics is a modern field of mathematics focusing on the design, analysis and implementation of algorithms in search of solutions to address complex problems facing science and engineering. We represent this area in research and teaching, and we provide the theoretical foundations used in many other areas of science.

We cover several topics in the field of numerical mathematics, including

• numerical solution of partial differential equations, in particular by mixed finite elements and iso-geometric analysis,
• structure preserving discretization of nonlinear dynamical systems and partial differential equations,
• efficient solvers for linear systems via multigrid preconditioning and domain decomposition methods,
• nonlinear optimization, e.g. non-smooth problems and set-valued analysis.
