Beach Volleyball: JKU "Seniors" win Gold at European Uni Championship in Slovenia

Peter Eglseer and Florian Schnetzer won the beach volleyball championship title at the European University Championships.

The two "senior" players took advantage of a last university-level opportunity to win a medal at the recent UNI European Championship games. With great confidence, Flo and Peter started for the Johannes Kepler University Linz and after clear victories, the two made it to the quarter finals on Wednesday evening, winning 2-0 against fellow countrymen Friedl/Trummer. Despite the heat on Thursday, the duo had another exciting tournament day ending with a clear and emotional 2-0 victory over Lithuania. A thunderstorm temporarily halted the final game and the athletes had to wait until shortly before midnight for the EUSA’s final decision. The surprise: the 2019 European Champion Title was awarded to both teams!

The Austrian women’s team Friedl/Pfeffer won the women’s championship title. Florian and Peter are the first Austrian university team to win two EUSA European Championship titles. In addition, Florian Schnetzer was presented with an MVP Award at the tournament.

But there is no rest for the weary – the dynamic duo traveled back to Austria during the night to play at today’s Austrian Pro-Tour games in Ebensee.
