Wolfgang Schöfberger heads an organic chemistry team at the JKU that worked on a creative approach to convert the harmful CO² gas into alcohol! Specifically, into ethanol and methanol but in the end, it is alcohol.

In recognition of outstanding achievement, the JKU chemists were presented with a state award for innovation in the category of research companies. During the awards ceremony, Markus Achleitner (state minister for economic affairs), remarked: "Innovative strength is a key driver for this location, particularly during these challenging times. After all, innovation is a decisive prerequisite for our companies and for Upper Austria as location of business, especially to be able to hold our own when it comes to international competition."
