APPLICATION

In an effort to streamline the application process, we have divided the procedure into two steps:

Step #1: Use the link below to submit your application by February 20, 2023
Submit a brief, concise, and informative text telling us why you would like to be considered for the Fellowship program and the added value it will have for your dissertation.

Step #2: Take part in an advising/consultation appointment by February 24, 2023
We will schedule individual advising/consultation appointments with applicants via Zoom (by no later than CW 8) to learn more about your proposal, provide immediate feedback, and clarify any questions you may have..

• Application deadline: February 20, 2023
• Decisions will be rendered by February 28, 2023. You will be notifited by e-mail.
  
  The selection process will be conducted together with the Open Innovation Center at the Ludwig Boltzmann Society. In addition to the project's relevance in support of Open Innovation in Science, there will be special consideration to ensure the group is as diverse and interdisciplinary as possible.
   

PREREQUISITES FOR ELIGIBILITY & FINANCIAL SUPPORT

• You must be actively enrolled in a PhD program at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.
• The course will take place in-person and on-site.

• If you have been selected to be part of the Fellowship Program, you will need to formally submit a short proposal (approx. 600 words), a budget & a timeline by no later than the end of April 2023 (a template will be provided). By then, you will have received information about the topic of Open Innovation in Science, met your mentor and will have a better idea of how OIS can enhance your research.
• At the end of the project, but by no later than October 31, 2023, you will be required to submit a short, final report.

WHAT DOES FUNDING COVER?
 

All of the funded activities must be directly related to your PhD dissertation and must include stakeholder involvement. Eligible activities include those in which scholars/scientists and stakeholders work together as equals to jointly design, implement, and/or disseminate the project. Funded activities may include, for example, hackathons, (gamified) crowdsourcing, co-creating workshops, patient advisory boards, citizens' juries, group discussions, or holding a World Cafés.

Funding is not available for activities in which stakeholders are solely study subjects (i.e., clinical trial participants).
 

Applicable costs (up to a max. of € 5,000) include:

• Honoraria (for example, in terms of compensating stakeholders for their time, or services rendered to conduct the activity, such as facilitating workshops, designing surveys, analyzing data)

• Expenses for travel and lodging ( i.e., second class on public transportation, overnight accommodations)

• Non-personnel costs (i.e. catering, printing expenses, taking out ads, renting space, communication software, such as Slack, Asana, etc., small equipment such as digital recorders, video cameras, etc.)

Non-applicable costs include:

• Personnel costs by PhD students and/or faculty members

• Sub-contracts relating to scholarly activities

• Patent and/or licensing costs

• Software to conduct research

• Research and office infrastructure (such as microscopes, laptops, printers, etc.)
