Over 400 guests attended a very special ceremony at the Convent Hospital of the Barmherzige Brüder Linz.

After leading the renowned Institute of Sensory and Speech Neurology (ISSN) for decades with his visionary approach and unwavering commitment, Dr. Johannes Fellinger has now handed over the reins to his successor, Dr. Johannes Hofer. The Institute of Sensory and Speech Neurology supports those who have communication, speaking, hearing, and learning disorders as well as limited communication skills as a result of personal development impairment. It has been an important responsibility and the ceremony focused on joint efforts and expressing gratitude, not only in recognizing Dr. Fellinger's hard work, but also to the many supporters who made his success a reality.
During his speech, Governor Thomas Stelzer pointed out just how profoundly the ISSN's activities have changed the quality of many people's lives. During the ceremony, he presented Prof. Fellinger with the “State of Upper Austria’s Golden Medal of Merit”. In addition to numerous invited guests, JKU Vice-Rector for Medicine Elgin Drda, Dean Gerald Pruckner, and former JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas congratulated Prof. Fellner on his award.
Fellinger does not plan to rest on his laurels! The physician will continue serving as head of the JKU's Research Institute for Developmental Medicine, and he has also written a book together with Cardinal Schönborn. “Meine Augen haben das Heil gesehen. Auf Jesus schauen mit Helmut Michael Berger” is dedicated to Fellinger's father-in-law’s work, artist Helmut Michael Berger (1925-2013), who lost his hearing as a teenager and discovered how to express himself artistically.
