Katta Spiel

Katta Spiel is an Assistant Professor for 'Critical Access in Embodied Computing' at the TU Vienna. Through a lens of Critical Access, they research marginalised perspectives on embodied computing. Their work informs design and engineering supporting the development of technologies that account for the diverse realities they operate in. As part of their interdisciplinary partnerships with neurodivergent and/or nonbinary peers, they explore new potential to support designs, methodologies and innovative technological artefacts.

After earning their PhD in 2018 from the TU Vienna ,and after a year at KU Leuven, they conducted post-doctoral work as an FWF-Hertha Firnberg Scholar, also at the TU Vienna. They have been the recipient of several international and national awards, including the SICGHI 2020 Outstanding Dissertation Award, as well as the Förderungspreis der Stadt Wien in the categories of mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, and engineering in 2022.
