As a transformative force, creativity plays a pivotal role in driving artistic and scholarly discoveries forward. If we aim to address and tackle the complex nature of current transformation processes, we need to combine different perspectives, new creative approaches, and unconventional solutions. When it comes to solving problems, there is no single approach.

The new Art x Science School for Transformation, a joint undertaking between the JKU and the University of Applied Arts Vienna, seeks to explore this very space that allows art and science to merge and where students and faculty can explore unconventional approaches, transdisciplinary research, creating a space where innovative, forward-looking education can flourish.

We look forward to welcoming bestselling author Ulrike Herrmann to our launch ceremony! As part of her keynote speech, she will outline the new university concept and social design options. Afterwards, along with other guests, inclluding higher education expert Channa Van der Brug, we will talk about how we can build bridges to connect social transformation, transdisciplinary education, and artistic and scientific perspectives. Georg Hubmann, Co-head of the Art x Science School for Transformation in Linz, will chair the discussion.

This event will also feature excerpts from the LIT Ars Electronica project touching thoughts / kicking cancer,, opens an external URL in a new window a collaboration between scientists from the JKU Faculty of Medicine and international artists. The project uses 3D imaging techniques in digital pathology to provide impressive insights into neural networks and cancer tissue and shows how art and technology together enrich medical research.
