The residency program establishes a point of contact between creating art and applying scientific approaches. Here at the crossroads of technology, we bring art and science together to create unique installations that examine and explore the current social impact of technological development. The residency program has been made possible by Deutsche Telekom in cooperation with Ars Electronica and with the support of the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

 

Call for entries and finalist Kyriaki Goni
A published call invited artists from Eastern Europe to submit their ideas and concepts. The call yielded over 120 submissions from 22 different countries and a panel of experts selected Athens-based Kyriaki Goni (GR) as a suitable candidate. In her work, the artist places people at the center of technological development and proceeds to develop future scenarios and confront the audience with topical and current questions in regard to artificial intelligence, ethics, and datafication.

Interaction on an artistic and scientific level
In order to hone the artistic and scientific questions behind the artistic installation, at the beginning of the development process the artist had an opportunity to talk with a JKU scientist. Given the thematic crossover and at the artist's request, scientific communication took place with Prof. Martina Mara, head of the LIT Robopsychology Lab, opens an external URL in a new window. The installation was implemented and presented at the 2021 Ars Electronica Festival with the support of Ars Electronica.
