Pathways of Creative Engagement between Art & Design, Aktivism and the Economy
Developing creative tools together as part of an interdisciplinary team.
How can the work we do not only be effective and meaningful, but also celebrate the more playful and enjoyable aspects and qualities? We grapple with the mental weight of multiple crises hanging over our heads and we want to do something about it! But how can we effectively channel our creative energy without risking mental burn-out?
Starting with inspiration and imagination and moving toward exploration and realization, this new course will explore potential avenues and creative resources to help future innovators and creative individuals not only survive, but thrive in their endeavors.
Over the course of the semester, experts in the fields of art, design, activism, politics and business will share valuable insight into their real-world practices, philosophy, motivation, their strategies, and resources. Together, we will examine different forms of involvement and discuss their potential impact.
Students are encouraged to apply the experts' insight and ideas to create their own set of resources, as well as consider the type of scenarios in which they can use and apply these resources. Toward the end of the course, students will test their devised resources and projects together with peers and a wider audience.
Designed for students from both the JKU and University of Applied Arts Vienna, the students' shared experiences during the course - and a concluding presentation - are meant to facilitate dialog and interaction, as well as mutually inspire students and departments at both universities.
This course has been created and organized by designer and researcher Alexandra Fruhstorfer, opens an external URL in a new window.
