320,000 Euros in Funding for JKU Plastic Sensors

A new ultrasound-based polymer processing sensor was selected for a spin-off Austrian Research Promotion Agency fellowship program.

An international panel of experts reviewed 35 applications and selected 8 for funding, including the project submitted by Bernhard Praher, Klaus Straka and Thomas Mitterlehner (Institute for Polymer Injection Molding and Process Automation

The 18-month project Moldsonics will develop and test sensor systems designed to monitor and control injection molding processes – one of the most important processes in polymer engineering - for use in industry. As opposed to current measurement technology, this non-invasive method lets scientists identify a variety of specific product and process parameters during the manufacturing process to help avoid waste and reduce production costs.
