At the Institute of Strategic Management at Johannes Kepler University, we have embarked on a pioneering path: integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into higher education teaching in management.
Recently, Waldemar Kremser and Fabio Damm presented an innovative approach during the Teaching & Learning Lab at the JKU Business School.
As part of a newly developed seminar design for teaching methodological skills and competencies in systematic literature research, students are encouraged to actively use current AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot at all stages of the literature review process – from initial topic discovery to developing and summarizing findings.
We are particularly passionate about promoting AI competencies and want our students not only to use AI tools but also to critically examine them and enabling them to utilize AI responsibly in an academic context.
The seminars we have completed so far have provided us with valuable insights: AI is proving to be a powerful tool. However, integrating AI into teaching requires careful adjustments regarding seminar design, as well as constant consideration of ethical aspects. In presenting our concept, we wanted to provide inspiration – for new ideas and future-oriented developments in higher education teaching.
We are convinced that this approach has the potential to further enhance the quality of academic education at JKU.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the numerous participants for the lively discussion and to JKU Business School for organizing and conducting the event!
