A JKU Spin-Off Company Presented with the EY Scale-Up Award

The EY Scale-up Award, opens an external URL in a new window and its associated program have been designed to support promising Austrian start-up and scale-up companies. The special award for "Spin-Off of the Year" was presented to datavisyn (scale-up), a spin-off company from the JKU.

datavisyn creates software solutions to visually analyze data for the R&D departments at pharmaceutical companies. Another company, Circly, was also presented with an award. datavisyn also received an award in the "Bio Tech & Health" category.

Created as a spin-off company from the Johannes Kepler University Linz at the end of 2016 by a four-member team consisting of Marc Streit (a JKU professor of Visual Data Science), Samuel Gratzl (a PhD alumni from the JKU), Alexander Lex (professor at the University of Utah), and Nils Gehlenborg (professor at Harvard Medical School), datavisyn Ltd. successfully conducts joint research in the field of visual analysis of biomedical data.

The early stages of drug development involve searching large and complex amounts of data in order to meet tomorrow's drug targets. datavisyn focuses on creating software solutions designed to assist pharmaceutical companies during this critical period by not only aiding in the search and applying interactive and innovative visualizations that help researchers analyze data and understand the correlations, but also including the latest findings by the company founders' international research groups. The company's objectives include accelerating new drug development and new treatments as well as making them more reliable and cost-effective. The company’s customers include leading pharmaceutical companies such as Bayer and Boehringer Ingelheim.
