Title: (machine) learning and the quantum realm

Abstract: Quantum computers are not the next generation of supercomputers, but an entirely different type of hardware with unique advantages and disadvantages. The current hype regarding this technology is in part explained by the hope that these devices may help us to save considerable resources in the future.

But resource savings can come in many shapes and forms. In this talk I will discuss a resource parameter that occurs naturally in (machine) learning theory: training data size. We will then show how current quantum architectures can lead to substantial (i.e. exponential) and rigorous improvements in training data size.

This is joint work with Google Quantum AI who ran our protocols on their 53-qubit Sycamore quantum chip and confirmed our findings -- the first demonstration of a substantial quantum advantage in a (stylized) machine learning challenge.

Abstract: sendance GmbH, opens an external URL in a new window, a spinoff from the LIT Soft Materials Lab was founded in 2021. Its mission is to take the very successful applied research on soft and conformable electronics and use it to create marketable products. Dr. Robert Koeppe, co-founder and CEO of sendance will give an overview of this transformation from applied research to technology to product.
